Who is responsible?
Zeehond.org is the controller for the processing of personal data on this website. Questions can be sent to [email protected].
What data do we process?
Zeehond.org is a largely static website. We do not collect data for profiling or advertising purposes. Four situations involve (limited) processing:
- Server logs. Our hosting provider keeps access logs with your IP address, the requested URL and your browser type, used only for security and performance. Logs are kept for a maximum of 30 days.
- Google Analytics 4. We use Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID
G-9EY8P1F6PE) to measure aggregated visitor numbers and page popularity. GA4 sets cookies (_ga,_ga_*) and sends anonymised events to Google. We have IP anonymisation enabled and do not share data with Google advertising products. See the cookie statement for the cookies GA places and how to refuse or delete them. - Contact form. If you use the contact form or email us, we process your name, email address and message — only to answer your question. We keep messages for as long as is needed to wrap up the conversation.
- Functional cookies. Alongside GA we use small functional cookies, for example to remember your filter on the spotting map.
Legal basis
For Google Analytics we rely on your consent, given through the cookie banner on your first visit. For server logs the basis is our legitimate interest (security and performance). For the contact form the basis is your explicit request.
External services
Beside Google Analytics this website uses two other external services:
- OpenStreetMap (tile.openstreetmap.org) — for the map tiles on the spotting map. Your IP address is forwarded to OpenStreetMap.
- unpkg.com — for loading the Leaflet library that powers the map. Your IP address is forwarded here too.
We have no control over the privacy policies of these services; their own statements apply.
Transfers outside the EU
Google Analytics processes some data on servers in the United States. Google is certified under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, which provides an adequate level of protection as recognised by the European Commission.
Retention
We configure a 14-month retention for Google Analytics events; data is deleted automatically after that. Server logs are purged within 30 days. Contact messages are kept only as long as needed for the conversation.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, port and object. You can also withdraw your consent for Google Analytics at any time via the cookie settings at the bottom of every page. For other requests, email the address above; we respond within 30 days. You may also lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
